Friends remember victims in Danville robbery

DANVILLE, Ky. (WKYT) - Friday's deadly robbery shocked those who knew the woman and two men who lost their lives.

The Boyle County Coroner identified two of the victims as Michael and Angela Hockensmith, the owners of the shop.

Friday WKYT talked with a neighbor who says she is distraught about the loss.

The people we spoke with today tell us they lived next to the Hockensmiths for about a year and a half. They say the two of them were always there for advice or just friendship. These former neighbors say they can't stop thinking about their two young children.

Tammy Price is a friend of the family. She says, "I still can't believe it, my baby she's 11-years-old and she was texting Angela last night."

Tammy Price says her younger daughter often played with Angela and Michael's 9-year-old son. Angela was helping her older daughter plan a wedding and was going to sing in it."

Susan Combs is also a friend of the family. She says, "I kind of knew it was them beause they were the only ones at the pawnshop, but I didn't want to believe it."

Combs says she was in contact with Michael's brother this morning. He told her thier 9-year-old son hid in a closet with his younger sister during the shooting.

Combs says, "Angela home schooled so she took both the kids down with her."

Price says, "As far as I knew the kids were OK."

Price says she takes comfort in knowing the family had recently gone on several trips together and no matter how their parents were taken from them. She says these children will always know they were loved.

"They were really, really good people. She was going to sing a song that I dedicated to my mom."

Price tells me that the Hockensmiths had also taken in a foreign exchange student during this school semester.
