A Flood Watch and a Winter Storm Watch are out for the entire region late Tuesday through early Thursday. Heavy rain develops Tuesday night into Wednesday morning and may put down 1”-3” in some areas. Arctic air pushes in from west to east on Wednesday with heavy sleet and snow taking over. That setup could produce several inches of accumulation. Snow will slowly end from west to east Thursday as bitterly cold air continues to push in.
LONDON, Ky. (WKYT) - David Shepherd and Joshua Campbell went to Bee Rock for a late night fishing trip Friday night, but they never returned home. Their wrecked car wasn’t discovered until Saturday afternoon.
911 dispatch tapes released Monday revealed what happened when some fishermen stumbled upon the wreckage with the two young victims inside:
“A man just came to my house and he said there was a car wreck, down at Pulaski-Laurel County line, on the Laurel County side. He said there’s a car up in a tree and he said he thought there were people in it,” the caller is heard telling the dispatcher.
Police responded and found the 19-year-olds inside. Family members returned Monday to place a wreath at the spot the car ran off the campground road. Many question what happened here.
“If they were driving that fast through a campsite, I don’t get that because Josh always drove slow,” said Joshuah Smith, a friend of both victims.
Smith was with Shepherd and Campbell until they left his house about 10:30 Friday night.
“They were going down there to catch whatever they could, it didn’t matter if it was 20 or 30 minutes,” said Smith.
Both men leave behind wives. One was a young father and one was about to be.
“David was always talking, my kid is going to be here in a couple of days, what am I going to do?” said Smith,” said Smith.
Police say they are still investigating what caused the car to leave the road, hit some rocks and a dumpster, then go down an embankment before it hit a tree.
“I don’t know if maybe a deer jumped out in front of them, you never know what happened in the last moments,” said Smith.
