LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - A fundraiser today at Masterson Station Park is helping pay for one teen girl's medical bills.
15-year-old Shaina Whitt is still recovering after she was hit while riding her bike at the intersection of Man O' War and Boston Road.
She was critically injured in the accident exactly one month ago today.
The fundraising event is from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on soccer field three at the park, and they are calling it "Goals for Shaina Whitt." Friends, family and those touched by Shaina's story came out to show their support. "We want her to know that we are going to be there for her now and in the future, we are family and we're not leaving her side," explains good friend and teammate Alyssa Hogan.
According to Facebook, she is out of UK Hospital and is currently recovering at a rehab facility.
Whitt's former soccer coach says that she continues to show improvement in her recovery.
Whitt's soccer family says the fundraising event is the way they feel they can help.
"We just felt like it was something we were supposed to help them with," said Louis Jones, who is Shaina's former soccer coach.
All donations will go to Shaina Whitt's fund at Community Trust Bank.
There will be food and a silent auction at the fundraiser.
