Funeral services set for "Wah Wah" Jones

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Funeral arrangements have been set for former UK legend Wallace "Wah Wah" Jones.

Jones passed away on Sunday at the age of 88.

He was of the Big Blue Nation's all-time greatest athletes. Born in Harlan Co., Jones was an All-American under both Adolph Rupp and Bear Bryant and is the only Kentucky player to have his number retired in in both basketball and football.

Jones' visitation will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Immanuel Baptist Church in Lexington, his funeral will follow at noon. A celebration of his life will be held Thursday from 3 p.m to 8 p.m. At UK's K-club.

Jones was the last remaining member of UK's "Fabulous Five" that won the 1948 and 1949 National Championships.

He also went to four state tournaments as a Harlan Green Dragon, winning a state title in 1944.

Jones was also a member of the U.S. Basketball team that won the 1948 Olympic gold medal.
