Garbage truck accident slows traffic

An accident involving an overturned garbage truck slowed traffic in north Lexington during Monday morning's rush hour.

The truck overturned on Rookwood Parkway, just off Bryan Station Road, around 7:30 a.m.

Police say the driver of the garbage truck was turning onto Rookwood Parkway from Bryan Station, when he hit the curb, causing his truck to topple over. Bystanders helped the driver until emergency crews arrived. He was taken to the hospital to be checked out for some minor injuries.

Rookwood Parkway is the only road to Northern Elementary and with the entrance to the road closed parents, students and teachers all had find other ways to get to class.

"Just had to figure out where to park, how to get your kids to school, not prepared to walk in this cold weather," said Miana Cornell. She parked on Bryan Station Road and walked her kids to school.
