LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - You may have to dig a little deeper in your wallet if you need to fill up your gas tank.
Prices at most Lexington gas stations are now up to $3.69 a gallon. On Monday, many gas stations were selling a gallon of regular unleaded for $3.39 a gallon.
On Monday, GasBuddy listed the average price of gas at $3.43/g, after the company's daily survey of 275 gas outlets in Lexington. The daily survey of 2,623 gas outlets in Kentucky put the statewide average at $3.51/g. The national average has increased 28.2 cents per gallon during the last month according to GasBuddy.
"If anything positive came about as a result of Winter Storm 'Nemo' it may be that the resulting 'demand destruction' seems to have flattened out the rate at which prices had been increasing in the Northeast and the Midwest too," said Senior Petroleum Analyst Gregg Laskoski. "On the west coast motorists are less fortunate. With western refineries producing at 75% capacity (less than any other region), California has seen its average price increase by 14 cents per gallon over the past week; doubling the rate of increase over the same period for the rest of the country."
Not all Lexington stations made the jump. As of six Tuesday morning, the Speedway at the corner of New Circle Road and Liberty Road was still selling gas at $3.39 a gallon, as was the Midway Mart on Winchester Road. If you have a 20-gallon tank, filling up there would save you around six dollars.
