Georgetown police say restaurant robbery was an inside job

SCOTT COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - Georgetown police now say a violent robbery at a restaurant caught on tape was an inside job.

Police arrested Davin M. Edwards, 18, and Chase A. Lane, Friday afternoon, both are employees at the Dairy Queen. Investigators tell us the teens staged the robbery, Lane played the role of the victim and Edwards acted as the robber.

The incident happened early Sunday morning. An employee told police as he opened the back door as he was closing up, a gunman forced he was way in and attacked him. The incident was caught on tape you can see a masked intruder shove the employee several times until he opened up the safe.

Investigators say the break in the case came after they obtained surveillance footage from a neighboring business that allowed them to identify the vehicle used in the robbery.

Lane is charged with theft by unlawful taking and falsely reporting an incident, Edwards is charged with theft by unlawful taking. Both teenagers are now in the Scott County Detention Center.
