GEORGETOWN, Ky. (WKYT) - It didn't take long for police to catch up with a man they say robbed a gas station. Georgetown Police tell us the robber left some important clues behind, after holding up a Shell gas station Tuesday morning.
The man who may have gotten away with some cash, but they say he left behind a tire. Georgetown police say the surveillance video shows David Bentley robbing the store in just a few seconds.
They say the Bentley implied he had a weapon, the clerk gave him some money, and he ran. Witnesses told police he had a car parked at the Walgreens behind the gas station. Police say that car had a flat tire when he parked, so as he was driving away, the tire began to rip apart and sparks flew from his vehicle.
A sheriffs deputy responding to the call saw that tire in the road, and followed marks on the pavement to a parking lot near the county line, where police say he found Bentley and his car with the tire missing. They say they also found the money from the robbery in his pocket.
A gun was never produced, but police say the threat was serious. Georgetown Police are getting a warrant to search Bentley's car. They say they may find a weapon and more evidence inside.
Bentley is charged with 1st degree robbery.
