Jason Ellis Bardstown Police Department
BARDSTOWN, Ky. (WKYT) - The annual golf scramble is the biggest fundraiser of the year for the Old Kentucky Home Fraternal Order of Police.
"It's grown through the years. Last year we had the most teams with 22. This year, we're going on 40," said Nelson County Sheriff's Deputy Ramon Pineiroa.
They're expecting nearly double the number of last year's record. It's probably got something to do with the new direction of the fundraiser.
"We decided to throw the idea around and it was kind of like a no-brainer," said Deputy Pineiroa.
The fundraiser is now the Jason Ellis Memorial Golf Scramble. A third of the money raised will go to Officer Ellis' family. Not only have organizers smashed their previous record, they're also getting interest from sponsors across the country. A call from someone in California wanting to sponsor a hole came in during WKYT's interview.
"Once again, another individual donating, as you can see on an interview getting more sponsors," Pineiroa said as he hung up the phone.
The teams will tee off at 7:30AM and 1:30PM tomorrow.
