MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - One central Kentucky man was trying to help to a woman in distress when things took an unexpected turn, causing him to be the one needing help.
Montgomery County sheriff's deputies are now searching for the man and woman responsible for tricking the Good Samaritan.
“You’re not thinking of the worst case scenario,” Montgomery County Sheriff Fred Shortridge said. But for one man, his attempt to help a woman in need became just that.
“It was noon, broad daylight and a woman was standing on the side of the road looking like she needed help. The way we are here in Montgomery County is that we are going to stop and give help. That’s just us,” Shortridge said.
Prewitt Grassy Lick Pike is the road where a man spotted the woman standing outside of her car and appeared to be having car problems.
But when the man pulled over to help, he quickly learned it was all a set up.
The Good Samaritan’s generous gesture was greeted by a man holding what appeared to be a gun.
Deputies say the alleged gunman hid in the backseat of the woman's car right before he robbed the victim, threw the victim's keys into a nearby field and then took off with the woman in a silver Chevy.
“You stop to be a Good Samaritan and to help someone and that’s what you get. People better be careful,” said Lettie Davis, who lives right down the road from where the robbery took place.
Davis told us that from now on, she's going to be more guarded if she happens to stumble upon a similar situation.
“I would normally have stopped to help because that’s just the way I am but I’ll think twice now before I do that.”
She says this incident is case and point that no good deed goes unpunished.
The sheriff believes the two suspects are from Paris and he is now working with Bourbon County officials to track down the man and woman responsible.
