It's a dangerous crime, especially with the dry weather. Investigators suspect someone purposely set several grass fires this afternoon, just a few feet from homes.
The fires happened in the Canewood neighborhood in Scott County.
The fires happened in a field in the subdivision and quick action stopped them from getting out of control. Georgetown firefighters got the call around 6 tonight that several grass fires had popped up near homes off Inverness Drive. When they arrived, they say 3 areas of the grassy field were on fire.
The fires were quickly put out before they could spread to the surrounding homes. As investigators took a closer look after the fires were out, they say it appeared they had been intentionally set.
Witnesses in the neighborhood placed a teenager near the fires at the time they started. Fire officials say this could have been much worse. Scott County is still under a burn ban.
