Great-grandmother robbed at gunpoint

GEORGETOWN, Ky. (WKYT) - A great-grandmother, robbed at gunpoint Tuesday morning, is sharing her story with WKYT in the hopes it will serve as a warning to her neighbors.

Flora Jones says she was walking out of her home on Towson Way in Georgetown, waiting for her son to pick her up from work, when a man came running towards her with a shot gun.

She's lived in the neighborhood for more than a decade. Never once, until Tuesday, did she ever fear for her life.

"I never dreamed in a million years that I'd walk out my door, to go to work, and a man would come up and put a shotgun to me and tell me 'don't move, give me your money,'" said Jones. The great-grandmother was waiting outside Tuesday morning for her son to pick her up when the robber confronted her.

"He said 'don't move' and I said 'baby, I can't not move and give you my money.'"

She says she emptied her pockets, but kept her house key hidden.

"He said 'walk if you want to live,' and I walked to the front of the car and I don't know what it was, it was just the tone of his voice I guess, but I mean I promise I thought if I walked into that backyard he'd shoot me."

Jones says she kept walking until she reached the corner of her street, right across from an elementary school. That is where she waited for her son.

"Did I think he was gonna shoot me? Yeah. And I knew, I just knew in my heart that if I went in to that dark backyard he was gonna shoot me. And I'm not gonna be found by my granddaughter, under her bedroom window. Ain't happening."

Jones won't call herself brave, just protective. She's telling her neighbors about what happened before any of them think it's still safe to stroll early in the morning.

"Five o'clock in the morning, you walk out the door, I'm sure when morning comes and I go to walk out that door it's not gonna be as calm as I am right now."

The following is the description Jones and police gave us of the suspect.

They say the man was black, between 5'3" and 5'7" with a stocky build, and a chubby face. He wore a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt and a white sock hat.
