FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - A national advocate for pay equality for women has endorsed Democrat Alison Lundergan Grimes for U.S. Senate.
Lilly Ledbetter, for whom the federal Fair Pay Act is named, announced her support in an email on Tuesday.
Ledbetter said Grimes would fight for fairness for Kentucky women if elected. Ledbetter also criticized the incumbent, Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell, for voting against fair pay legislation in the past.
The Grimes and McConnell campaigns have exchanged barbs for months even though they have to win primary races next May to run against each other.
McConnell spokeswoman Allison Moore criticized Grimes for being mum on the issues of a Democratic lawmaker accused of sexually harassing female legislative staffers and on federal health care reforms she said are costing thousands of Kentucky women coverage.
