Posted: Wed 7:52 AM, Mar 20, 2013

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes will lead a broad discussion about elections and community involvement at the University of Kentucky student center.

The state's chief elections officer, Grimes will be joined at the 10:30 a.m. EDT Wednesday event by Lexington Mayor Jim Gray, God's Pantry Food Bank chief executive Marian Guinn and UK Institute for Rural Journalism and Community Issues director Al Cross.

Grimes, who hasn't ruled out a run for U.S. Senate next year, has been leading a statewide series of roundtable discussions at Kentucky's colleges and universities to discuss the importance of "civic engagement." That broad term encompasses a range of topics from the importance of voting, to serving as community volunteers, to being engaged in the political process.
