Grimes to make statement about Senate race

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Kentucky Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes has scheduled a press briefing for Monday afternoon to issue a statement about Kentucky's U.S. Senate race.

The content of that announcement is being closely guarded.

Grimes has been touted as the Democrats' best hope of unseating Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell in next year's election. She has been considering whether to get into the race for the past several months.

Political adviser Jonathan Hurst said Grimes will meet privately with supporters at 2:30 p.m. EDT Monday in Frankfort and then brief reporters at 3 p.m.

Hurst declined to say whether she would be announcing her decision about the race.
