Guilty plea in crash that killed pregnant woman

A Lincoln County man pleads guilty to causing a crash that killed his pregnant girlfriend back in 2010.

Rodney Alcorn showed up in a Lincoln County courtroom Friday, ready to enter a guilty plea.

"I think Rodney's glad it's over with. It gives him the opportunity to know there's light at the end of the tunnel," says Alcorn's attorney Jerry Wright.

Alcorn pleaded guilty to manslaughter and fetal homicide for the death of his girlfriend Theresa Hoskins and her unborn baby.

Originally charged with murder for Hoskins' death, Alcorn's attorney says the plea deal is a best case scenario.

Alcorn crashed his car on KY highway 150 in Lincoln County in October 2010. Hoskins, who was pregnant at the time, was thrown from the car. Alcorn's attorney says the woman played a role in the accident.

"The deceased also had a very high blood alcohol level, and there would have been evidence she actually grabbed the steering wheel causing the wreck," Wright says.

Hoskins' three-year-old daughter was also in the car and was wearing a seat-belt. She survived.

"It's a very unfortunate set of circumstances," Wright says.

In addition to the manslaughter and fetal homicide charges, Alcorn pleaded guilty to wanton endangerment for the little girl that survived the crash. He also pleaded guilty to DUI.

Alcorn faces seven years in prison on the convictions. A judge will sentence him in February. He already was serving another seven years for previous convictions, including probation violation and being a persistent felony offender.
