Hammer used to smash in door in Jessamine County theft

JESSAMINE COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - A store owner is asking for help from the public to track down the men who broke into his store.

The crime happened at the E-Z Mart & Deli on Ashgrove Road in Jessamine County. That's just across the Fayette County line.

Chad Rayyan, the owner, says he was woken up around 2 o'clock Friday morning by employees after an alarm was tripped by the intrusion. Rayyan estimates around $3,000 to $4,000 worth of products stolen off the shelves.

"Opened the door, got in, steal a bunch of cigarettes, a bunch of detox medicine. A bunch of packs and a bunch of cartons of cigarettes. They filled up about two garbage bags," said Rayyan.

In the surveillance video, you can see the thieves take swing after swing at the door with a hammer, until one of them is able to reach in through the hole they created and unlock the door. It only took the two burglars around a minute and a half to get the job done.

You can then see the men run across the parking lot to a car parked down the street. They were gone just moments before police arrived.

Rayyan is hoping that somebody recognizes the two from the surveillance video and turns them in. He is planning on offering a cash reward for information that leads to an arrest in the case.
