A line of strong to severe storms will race across central and eastern Kentucky over the next several hours.
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – Before a gym full of family, friends and supporters, Kentucky’s Mr. Basketball, Madison Central guard Dominique Hawkins announced he would play his college basketball at the University of Kentucky.
Some had thought the announcement would come shortly after John Calipari visited Hawkins in Richmond on March 26, but that decision was put off until after last week’s spring break.
Hawkins made no secret of the fact that Kentucky was his first choice and it seemed that UK’s interest greatly increased after Calipari was on hand to see him play three times in the Boys Sweet 16.
Hawkins reportedly also had offers from South Carolina, Purdue, Morehead State and Western Kentucky. Some reports also said that Brad Stevens from Butler tried to get in on Hawkins recruitment in the last few weeks.
Hawkins averaged 20.4 points and 5.3 rebounds per game for the 32-5 State Champion Indians last season.
In the state tournament, he averaged 26.8 points and 8.8 rebounds per game in the four Madison Central victories.
We’ll hear from Hawkins and his coach about his decision throughout the day on WKYT and wkyt.com
