HazMat scare leads to Kroger evacuation in Lexington

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - A grocery store is back open for business after a hazardous materials scare.

An alarm went off inside the Kroger on Leestown Road around 3:30 Monday morning. After investigating, store officials found a busted valve on a pipe that was leaking Freon. The store was evacuated.

Fire department officials waited on scene until a Kroger maintenance crew could arrive. They were able to fix the valve.

Employees were allowed to go back in the store around 4:45 am.

There are no reports of injuries or illness.
