New details in sex abuse case against former teacher

Jason Thompson appeared in court for a preliminary hearing today. The sexual abuse case against him will go to the grand jury.

Thompson is accused of abusing a 14-year-old boy in 2009.

Thompson is a former Leestown Middle School teacher. He resigned in last year, after school officials brought up these allegations.

Thompson has pleaded not guilty, but Lexington police say that he inappropriately touched a 14-year-old boy in his home.

A Lexington police detective took the stand this morning, informing the judge that the alleged victim wrote a letter detailing the alleged abuse.

The letter has already been submitted as evidence in this case.

"During one investigation I was conducting with Mr. Thompson, I became aware of this child being in his home. I referred that to social services at the time. And the child didn't make allegations against Mr. Thompson until November," says Det. Trevor Welch, with Lexington police.

The judge issued a no contact order for Thompson with the charges still pending.
