Hearing on weapon destruction at Army Depot planned

RICHMOND, Ky. (WKYT) - The Blue Grass Army Depot is ready to proceed with plans to destroy part of the chemical weaponry stored at the facility.

The destruction operation has been in the works for some time.

On Tuesday, Army leaders will update the public on the process and hear from the community and two citizens advisory groups.

The meeting will discuss how chemical weapons experts will soon conduct an operation to remove rocket motors from a quantity of chemical weapons near Richmond.

Leaders will also talk about plans to remove dozens of rocket motors from some chemical weapons.

The public meeting is at 1:30 this afternoon at the Carl Perkins building on the EKU campus.

The public is encouraged to attend to ask questions and hear more about the plan.
