BREATHITT COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) -- A state police trooper who suffered serious injuries in a helicopter crash and survived is sharing his story for the first time.
Trooper Erwin Eiserman says he suffered seven broken ribs, a broken collarbone, and burns in the crash last summer in Breathitt County.
Eiserman is part of the State Police Marijuana Eradication Team.
He and the pilot, who works for the Drug Enforcement Agency were looking for marijuana at the time.
He says it was the pilot's first time flying in Kentucky.
"I remember him saying we've hit this power line. of course I was looking out this window and the power line was here and he said just looking for a place for us to land cause we're going to go down hard."
The pilot also survived the crash.
Trooper Eiserman has since returned to work.
Investigators say the helicopter's rotorhead hit a utility wire as it flew between ridges, causing the crash.
