High-speed chase from Tennessee to Whitley County ends in arrest

LONDON, Ky. -- A man is under arrest for leading police on a high speed chase from Tennessee into Kentucky, and crashing into an officer's vehicle.

Police say that Marrien K. Prince, 53, of Barbourville, sped across the Tennessee state line on I-75 in a Ford Mustang, chased by the Campbell County, TN. sheriff's department.

Kentucky State Police say they picked up the chase and pursued Prince into the Williamsburg area, where the Williamsburg Police joined the persuit.

Officers tell us that they attempted to stop the vehicle for speeding, but the driver kept going and rammed a Williamsburg Police Department car while attempting to get away.

The chase reached speeds of over 100 MPH, as police followed the suspect off the interstate toward Corbin.

Police reported that as the chase reached the intersection of US 25 and KY 90, the Whitley County Sheriff's Department deployed a spike strip to deflate the tires on the suspect's car. The tactic worked, as police say two tires were punctured and the driver was forced to stop.

Police said that Prince resisted arrest, and it was only after a struggle with officers that he was taken into custody.

Prince was taken to the Baptist Health Systems Hospital in Corbin, and later taken to the University of Kentucky Medical Center for treatment of injuries sustained in the scuffle with officers. His condition is listed as stable.

A state trooper was also treated at the Baptist Health Systems Hospital for injuries.

The state police charged with resisting arrest, speeding, and other traffic violations. The Williamsburg Police Department has also charged Prince. It's unknown if the sheriff's department from Campbell County, TN will be pressing charges against Prince.
