Higher than average salt used on Fayette County roads

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - City officials told WKYT road crews have used 17,500 tons of salt over the course of 30 snow/ice events this winter. The average amount of salt used falls between ten thousand and thirteen thousand tons.

"This is probably one of the worst winters I've seen since I've been down here. It's been a rough and long winter," said Debra Bahr as she filled her car up with gas.

A spokeswoman for the Lexington-Fayette County Urban Government says all told, the salt used this winter totals nearly one million dollars.
The division of streets and roads has a little less than 2,500 tons of salt on hand.
