Historical Frankfort flood marked

(Frankfort, Ky) "Be Aware: Know Your Line", is a new flood watch initiative for Frankfort and Franklin County.

The new program hopes to make citizens aware of how high the Kentucky River can get and when you should start preparing for flood like conditions.

There are 14 signs in the city and the county with the slogan "Be Aware: Know Your Line". The signs mark the Kentucky River's historical crest of 48 feet on December 10, 1978.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency selected six communities aross the U.S. to participate in the program.
FEMA and seven other Federal agencies are part of this pilot project.

"I hope that when people see these High Water Marks, they will spend a minute to consider how a major flood could impact our community," said Deron Rambo, Director of the Frankfort/Franklin County Office of Emergency Management.
