FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - House Speaker Greg Stumbo says the House appears likely to go along with the budget cuts to higher education proposed by Gov. Steve Beshear.
Stumbo told reporters Friday that House leaders have tried to find ways to restore the money, but he says the money isn't available.
The House budget committee is expected to approve a two-year budget plan next week. House action on the budget is expected next week.
Once the Democratic-led House wraps up its version, budget work will shift to the Republican-run Senate.
Beshear proposed a 2.5 percent cut in operating funds for universities and community and technical colleges.
Stumbo says the House plans to move ahead with Beshear's recommendations on capital projects.
Beshear proposed new funding for buildings and research at the state's colleges and universities.
