LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - A homeowner is in critical condition tonight after firefighters had to rescue him from the flames that destroyed his home.

We are told Ricky Tunnell and his wife lived in the home on Greenlawn Drive.

And officials tell us Tunnell is still in critical condition at UK Hospital where he is being treated for smoke inhalation while his wife is fine without treatment.

Neighbors nearby watched as the flames grew overnight and even grabbed some video of all the action.

"It looked pretty worrisome for awhile as the fire intensified," said Christopher Moore, a nearby neighbor.

As for the cause, firefighters stuck around well into the morning hours investigating what could have sparked this fire.

"I was also concerned if it might spread and other damage it might do to the area, but it looks like the firefighters did their jobs," said Moore.

With the high winds, firefighters say that they had to work fast to make sure the fire didn't spread to any nearby homes.

Officials say the home is destroyed and that the couple will have to find a new place to live.
