House to choose committee chairs this week

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - House Majority Leader Rocky Adkins is expecting work to be completed in the next couple of days on committee appointments, including chairmanships.

No major changes are expected, though two positions are open in the House. Former Democratic Rep. Mike Cherry of Princeton retired from the legislature at the end of last year, leaving the chairmanship of the House State Government Committee vacant. And Rep. Sannie Overly of Paris was elected chairwoman of the Democratic caucus on Tuesday, opening the way for a new chair of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation.

Adkins said the appointments will be announced by Friday.

The Legislature convened on Tuesday for a session that is scheduled to conclude on March 26. The first week of the session has been set aside largely for getting organized.
