Human trafficking hard to detect, Ohio A.G. says

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine says one of the challenges of combating human trafficking is it can be difficult to recognize at first.

DeWine says it's not a crime like house-breaking or mugging where it's clear what has happened.

DeWine said at a Wednesday human trafficking forum in Columbus that women being trafficked don't always see themselves as victims and sometimes are too scared to talk.

DeWine gives the example of a nail salon where women might be forced to work against their will but the signs aren't always obvious, such as the women not speaking English or not making eye contact.

DeWine says the cases are difficult for many reasons and can require long-term investigations.
