Hundreds line up at Georgetown Kroger grand opening

GEORGETOWN, Ky. (WKYT) - Hundreds formed a line that wrapped around the front of a newly-constructed grocery store.

They were there for the grand opening for the Kroger Marketplace off Highway 460 in Georgetown.

The first 500 people were given free items, and got in on plenty of opening week sales and free food samples.

The grand opening is more than three years in the making.

"This will bring in lots, people from everywhere. You don't have to go to Lexington, sorry," said shopper Dee Dee Denton.

She was in line not only to celebrate the opening of the store, but also her son getting a job there.

To mark the opening, WKYT will be giving away $50 gift cards everyday next week during our 6 a.m. newscast.
