Hundreds miss school after perceived social media threat

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) - More than half of the students at Warren East High School have missed a day of classes after a message left on a bathroom wall morphed into a perceived threat on social media.

Principal Damon Tabor told the Daily News that about 500 students out of a total of 900 were missing on Wednesday. He reassured the 400 who came to school that they were safe.

Tabor said the issue began Tuesday evening when graffiti was found in a student bathroom. He said it did not contain any specific threat, but as word spread through social media it morphed into something bigger and worse.

Tabor said he is offering a reward for information on the student who wrote the original message on the bathroom wall.
