A major winter storm is on the way to the bluegrass state. Local high water issues are possible early Wednesday and that will be followed up by heavy snow and sleet. Significant accumulations are likely Wednesday night and Thursday.
Part of Alumni Drive in Lexington was shut down due to slick conditions. There were several reports of wrecks between Man o'War Blvd. and Squires Road. Police shut down part of the road until salt trucks could get to the scene. It has since reopened.
Police believe black ice caused another crash in Lexington. A tractor trailer jackknifed on the Versailles Road ramp to outbound New Circle Road. Police closed the ramp until it was salted by state road crews. It caused quite a traffic backup. The ramp is now back open.
Icy conditions also caused a crash on Iron Works Pike, between Russell Cave Road and Newtown Pike. One person was taken to the hospital in that crash.
