LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Incumbents have pulled ahead in a number of Kentucky legislative races as voters chose party nominees for three dozen General Assembly seats.
Rep. Tom McKee of Cynthiana defeated his opponent Tuesday evening in the Democratic primary in a northern Kentucky district. McKee is chairman of the House Agriculture and Small Business Committee.
He was among several committee chairmen trying to fend off upset bids as challengers tried to shake up the General Assembly's power structure.
Among rank-and-file lawmakers advancing to the general election were two Democrats, Sen. Denise Harper Angel of Louisville and Rep. John Short of Hindman.
Republicans winning their primary contests included Reps. Stan Lee of Lexington and Marie Rader of McKee.
