Industrial hemp panel meeting in Frankfort

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - The idea of growing industrial hemp in Kentucky is back on the table in Frankfort this week.

The Kentucky Industrial Hemp Commission, which hasn't met for 10 years, is meeting Wednesday, when it's expected to look at potential legislation, educational and public outreach efforts and infrastructure issues related to hemp.

Staff members from Sen. Rand Paul's office and a representative of the hemp advocacy group Vote Hemp are expected at the meeting, along with the founder of a natural soap brand. A statement from Agriculture Secretary James Comer's office says the advocacy group is expected to announce private funding for the commission.

Paul and Comer have spoken in favor of industrial hemp development in the state.
