Infant dies; father charged with assault

ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. (AP) - A central Kentucky father is accused of causing injuries that led to the death of his 6-month-old daughter.

Elizabethtown police say 21-year-old Barry W. Williams Jr. was charged with first-degree assault Tuesday after his daughter was taken to the hospital suffering from bleeding on the brain. The girl died Wednesday of a severe head injury.

Police spokesman Virgil Willoughby told The News-Enterprise (http://bit.ly/143wRmL ) that additional charges are pending against Williams.

Willoughby said Williams told police he dropped the child on Monday while bathing her, and then shook her to make her stop crying and put her to bed.

The infant's mother, who does not live with Williams, noticed something wrong Tuesday morning when she came to visit and sought help.

Online jail records don't show whether Williams has an attorney.
