Inspectors: Memorial Coliseum is safe

After a metal beam fell at Indiana University

The Kentucky Wildcats play the Florida Gators during the second half at Memorial Coliseum. Kentucky won 76-69.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - After a metal beam fell at Indiana University's arena earlier this week, University of Kentucky officials inspected Memorial Coliseum just to be safe.

They say inspectors looked at the coliseum from top to bottom and didn't find anything wrong.

"It is a safe building. It's an older building, very well constructed. And it has served us well. It is in safe condition right now," says UK Fire Marshall Greg Williamson.

UK officials say they inspect all on-campus buildings regularly, but decided to go ahead and inspect Memorial Coliseum now, with the UK Hoops game scheduled for Thursday night.
