Investigators return to scene of officer's murder

BARDSTOWN, Ky. (WKYT) - Kentucky State Police investigators were back at the scene of Officer Jason Ellis' murder on Thursday.

Master Trooper Norman Chaffins told WKYT that police were looking for more clues at the scene where Officer Jason Ellis was shot and killed by an unknown suspect on May 25th.

Trooper Chaffins says that leads from their investigation took them back to the scene along the Blue Grass Parkway Thursday morning. We're told a K-9 unit led officers to a nearby pond. Trooper Chaffins tells WKYT that a dive team out of Louisville will search that pond this afternoon for any evidence.

Investigators have struggled to find a lead in the case of Ellis' murder, even as a reward fund grew to more than $130,000 for a tip that led to an arrest and successful prosecution. Few clues have been available and many questions remain unanswered.

We are continuing to track this investigation and will bring you updates as they are available.
