Iraq crisis could affect gas prices in Kentucky

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - The crisis in Iraq now involves the country's largest oil refinery. Iraqi security forces have been battling insurgents targeting the refinery. The troubles could affect how much you pay at the pump.

Triple A Blue Grass spokesperson Christopher Oakford says gas prices typically decrease in June. He's not expecting that to be the case this year.

On Wednesday, we found gas prices in Lexington ranging from $3.74 to $3.85. Oakford says any interruption to the supply will impact the price.

"Speculators start to push the price too. They gamble on it and that will have a big impact on gas potentially," says Oakford.

Oakford can't say how much of an increase we might see.
