LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - UK coach John Calipari says there is an argument that Florida is the best team in the country. The No. 3 Gators come into Rupp Arena to face No. 14 Kentucky Saturday night.
Florida is 22-2 overall and a perfect 11-0 in the SEC. The Gators ride a 16 game winning streak coming into Rupp. "I would say there is an argument that they're the best team in the country." said Calipari. "They're talented, they're veteran, they're disciplined. There have probably been seven games that they've played, with four minutes to go the game's in doubt, and they've won em all."
Only Syracuse and Arizona are ranked ahead of Florida in the AP Top 25. The Coaches' Top 25 has Syracuse, Wichita State and Arizona ranked ahead of the Gators.
Florida starts four seniors and a sophomore, Kentucky has been starting all freshmen. "And I would imagine they're coming in not to just win, they want to smash," said Calipari. "And so we're going to find out."
UK goes into the game riding a four game winning streak but trailing the Gators by two games in the SEC race. Calipari said he thinks his players are excited about Saturday. "They had a great practice last night. I didn't feel real good, which made me believe they wouldn't have felt real good because of our travel. And then we went in and they practiced. I think they're excited about playing. This is why they came here but they know it's a hard game. They know what we're up against, but like you're saying, this team could be the number one team in the country and they got all seniors."
ESPN Gameday is in Lexington for Kentucky-Florida. Tipoff will be at 9:00 p.m. Saturday on ESPN.
