Isaac threatens storm surge, floods all day

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Hurricane Isaac is moving slowly inland toward New Orleans from the Gulf of Mexico and threatens dangerous storm surge and flooding all day.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center said in an advisory early Wednesday the storm remained a Category 1 hurricane with top sustained winds of 80 mph as it rolled at just 6 mph up from a Gulf landfall in southeast Louisiana.

High water pushed by the storm has already flooded over the top of one levee in a rural stretch of Plaquemines Parish south of New Orleans. The levee is not part of the city's storm defense.
