12:30PM UPDATE:
Enough low-level moisture was around early on for a few cumulus clouds and isolated showers to develop. This trend continues through the rest of the afternoon hours before everything fizzles out this evening. Highs will be in the middle to upper 80s. The same pattern sets up Saturday and Sunday although it will be warmer and more humid both days.
Have a great Father's Day weekend.

While the calendar may suggest summer officially beginning on Wednesday (although us meteorologist have been under the summer banner since June 1 due to bookkeeping reasons). Whatever the case, a mid-summer weather pattern will take hold over the next several days. It starts today as an upper level ridge builds into the region. High temperatures through the Father’s Day weekend will be in the upper 80s with the upper 80s to lower 90s slated for a good part of next week. In addition to the increased heat, a strong southerly flow will increase our humidity levels as well. The combination of the hot temperatures and higher dew points will lead to stray afternoon showers through Monday. Any shower that develops today will mainly be over Southern Kentucky (chances for isolated showers decrease the farther north you are.
This set-up continues Saturday and on Father’s Day Sunday as isolated afternoon showers may pop-up (20% chance area-wide tomorrow and Sunday).
Don’t cancel any outdoor plans for the next several days but just be aware that a stray shower may develop during the peak heating of the day. The bigger concern will be the hot/humid conditions. Remember to drink lots of water, wear light-colored clothing, take plenty of breaks, and allow your pets indoors to cool off in the air conditioning (don’t forget to refill their water dishes frequently too).
Have a great weekend and Happy Father’s Day (Sunday)
