Keeneland moving Madison Stakes to Toyota Blue Grass Stakes Day

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Keeneland is moving the $300,000 Madison Stakes (G1) to Toyota Blue Grass Stakes Day, Saturday, April 13.

With the addition of the Madison Stakes to the lineup, Blue Grass Stakes Day now features five stakes races—three of which are Grade 1—worth $1.625 million.

“Moving the Madison Stakes to Blue Grass Day makes a lot of sense for both the horsemen and the wagering public,” said Vice President of Racing W. B. Rogers Beasley. “This will make for a terrific day of racing—the strongest in the country on that day.”

Keeneland is slated to run 12 races on Blue Grass Day, with first post remaining at 1:05 p.m. ET.

The Madison Stakes, first held in 2002 and run as a Grade 1 since 2009, is a race for fillies and mares four years old and older going seven furlongs on the main track. Champion female sprinter Groupie Doll won the 2012 Madison Stakes for trainer Buff Bradley, who co-owns the mare with his father Fred, and Carl Hurst and Brent Burns.

Keeneland’s spring race meeting opens on Friday, April 5, and continues through Friday, April 26.
