Keeneland opens, officials work to alleviate traffic concerns

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - The spring meet at Keeneland officially kicks off today.

It’s also college scholarship day, an opportunity for college students to get in for free and enjoy a day at the races and possibly walk away with a college scholarship or one of many other great prizes.

A number of new features will take the Keeneland experience to a whole new level this year.

On Saturdays, Keeneland’s official tailgate lot, “The Hill”, located adjacent to the Keene Barn and Entertainment Center, will feature food, trucks, music, a jumbo television, wireless wagering and terminals along with many other new amenities.

On the 13th, the Toyota Blue Grass Day will host an interactive fan experience and the Blue and White scrimmage is also the same day at commonwealth.

Officials are doing their best to east the traffic flow on US-60, which has a been a source of concern for many in the weeks leading up to this day.

Crews have opened all lanes of Man o’War at Versailles interaction in hopes of alleviating some of the traffic impact.

Police will also have more patrols out to direct traffic throughout the day.
