WASHINGTON (AP) - When the Senate considers gun control legislation, a prominent activist says it should include better access to mental health records.
Mark Kelly says that could prevent mentally disturbed people from getting guns -- people like Jared Loughner, who pleaded guilty in the shooting that injured Kelly's wife, former congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords. Six others were killed and eleven injured.
Case records released last week showed Loughner passed a background check despite evidence of his agitated mental state.
