Kentuckians donate goods, cash for shelters

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Kentucky shoppers have donated more than three-quarters of a million dollars in goods and cash to provide items needed by domestic violence shelters.

First lady Jane Beshear announced this week that the "Shop and Share Day" held Saturday at grocery stores in Kentucky collected items and cash valued at more than $782,000. The contributions will be given to Kentucky Domestic Violence Association shelters across the state.

Beshear says this year's donations amounted to more than all previous years combined.

The Kentucky Domestic Violence Association was founded in 1981 and includes 15 programs providing services to domestic violence victims and their children.
