Kentucky Theatre to hold grand re-opening celebration

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - After weeks of renovations the a popular theater in downtown Lexington is now back open.

The Kentucky Theatre is having a big party to celebrate their grand re-opening on Wednesday.

The celebration is hosted by friends of the Kentucky Theatre and will feature a free movie screening and popcorn.

Support from the city, citizens and businesses has funded the improvements at the historic theater including updated projection and sound technology. It will also feature new carpet, seating, paint and sound upgrades including a state-of-the-art hearing loop for the hearing impaired.

The theater has added a number of new items including state of the art projectors, new lighting and new seats.

The marquee will also be getting a makeover as well as the concession stand inside over the next couple of months.

The event will have a number of special guests, including the parents of Kentucky native George Clooney, Nick and Nina. The two had their first date at the Kentucky Theatre and will be host for the night's event. They watched the classic movie "South Pacific" on their date and so that movie will be shown at the event.

The Clooneys will address the audience before the show begins.

Wednesday night's event begins at 7:00 p.m. and doors will open at 6:00 p.m.

The event is free to the public, but seating is available on a first come, first serve basis. Tickets will be handed out starting at 3:00 p.m.
