Kentucky boy honored for saving his brother

WALTON, Ky. (AP) - A northern Kentucky boy is being recognized for his quick action that saved his brother's life.

The Kentucky Enquirer reports that 11-year-old Louis Fritz received a Heimlich Institute Certificate of Heroism Award recently at his school. The award was presented by the inventor of the maneuver he used to save his brother from a potential choking death.

Fritz performed the Heimlich maneuver on his 8-year-old brother, Davis Fritz, in December to prevent him from choking on orange slices that got lodged in his throat. Louis Fritz performed the maneuver three times until the orange slices popped out and landed on the family's kitchen table.

Louis Fritz says the incident happened too fast for him to get nervous.

He says he read about the Heimlich maneuver on a poster.
