Kentucky family braves Sandy inside NYC hotel
NEW YORK, Ny. (WKYT) - Hurricane Sandy turned a trip to New York into a unforgettable experience for one Kentucky family.
Jeff Hohman, a manager for East Kentucky Power in Clark County rode out last night's storm in a manhattan hotel room with his family.
"It was surreal, at one point the city was dark and no one was in the streets," Hohman explained.
In the Big Apple for vacation, the Hohman's braved Sandy to stay as busy as they could during a storm for the record books.
"A lot of places were closed, but a lot of places were still open, so we made the best of it," he said.
This morning, Jeff took a walking tour of Manhattan and took numerous pictures of the damage.
"We saw a lot of trees down and debris in the street," Jeff said. "Locals kept saying 'we've never seen anything like this' that was very telling."
The Hohman's are stuck in NYC until they can find a flight. They were originally supposed to be back in Kentucky by Tuesday afternoon.
