LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - The University of Kentucky men’s basketball team will kick off its 53rd NCAA Tournament vs. Kansas State on Friday, March 21 at approximately 9:40 p.m. ET at the Scottrade Center the NCAA has announced.
The game will be televised live on CBS.
In something of a shocker, the Kentucky Wildcats were given the number eight seed in the Midwest region. Many thought the Wildcats would get a 6-seed, but that's not the case.
The Wildcats (24-10) fell out of the Top 25 but bounced back with wins over LSU and Georgia in the SEC tournament. Kentucky also pushed top-seeded Florida in Sunday's tourney final before falling 61-60.
Kansas State (20-12) is one of seven teams from the Big 12 to make the NCAA tournament. The Wildcats have lost their last three, including a 91-85 defeat to league tournament champion Iowa State.
The Kentucky-Kansas State winner faces a likely matchup against top-seeded Wichita State on Sunday.
UK and Kansas State have played each other 8 times. UK has won all eight of those games. Most recently in 2008, Kentucky won 74-72.
