Very slow moving showers and thunderstorms will move into our area overnight and Sunday. The potential for flooding will be heightened in southern and eastern Kentucky.
A mother from Richmond, Kentucky is making funeral arrangements for her son, after police in Oklahoma say that he was murdered in his home by his step-son.
Mary Conner got the dreaded phone call that no mother ever wants to receive. She learned that her 45-year-old son, Marty Lee Jones was dead, "You just feel like your heart fell out of you. And you feel like you can never go on with life but you know you have to."
Authorities were called out to the home in the 700 block of East 11th Street in Shawnee Oklahoma on Friday. A postal worker called in after seeing smoke coming from the home.
"At first we thought it was a fire. But, then later we found out it was not a fire...it was murder, " says Mary Conner, Marty's mother.
Investigators with the Shawnee Police Department in Oklahoma charged Jones' step-son, 22-year-old, Joseph Naey with his murder and arson.
"That gives me lots of relief knowing that he's already captured and I just pray that Oklahoma will do what they got to do and he'll get exactly what he deserves, " adds Conner.
Conner says they are having Jones' body shipped back to Kentucky so he can be buried back at home. She says he was living in Oklahoma for the past fifteen years. She tells WKYT that Jones had recently separated with his wife.
While Jones' step-son is being charged with his murder, Conner can't understand why or how he could do something like this.
Conner doesn't want her son to just be remembered as a murder victim, "He was just a good loving, he was a good husband. He was a good Dad. He was a very special son."
Conner says she wouldn't be able to get through this tough time with the support of her family and her church.
Conner plans to have a funeral for Jones on Friday in Richmond.
